Debate and sometimes controversy tend to surround the selection of who gets the honor of carrying Canada’s flag at the Olympics.
It doesn’t have to be this year.
Yes, the temptation is there to have Wayne Gretzky have represent the country and he does merit consideration but for me one name stands out: Nancy Greene.
For starters, she’s from Rossland, British Columbia. Hello.
Next, she won Olympic gold in the giant slalom and silver in the slalom in 1968 in Grenoble. Moreover, she has two World Cup titles under her ski boot.
Last, she was named Canada’s female athlete of the 20th century.
Her credentials and bio speak for themselves.
It should be reminded she won gold for our country during a time when there was no program of excellence; where it was really an amazing feat for Canadians who won anything given the sparse funding that went towards amateur athletes.
She should carry the flag.
