Our Michael Phelps

Upon winning her 5th gold medal in Beijing (14th in her career) Chantal Petitclerc is Canada’s most decorated athlete ever. She is incredibly popular in China.

Yet, she’s not getting one red cent from the Canadian Olympic Association. Bonjour la visite, merci beaucoup now leave.

How can we possibly accept a two-tiered system for our athletes? Either you pump cash incentives for all athletes who compete for Canada or we don’t.

The moral calculation seems straight forward to me.

The Paralympics need to be fused with the Olympics somehow. In fact, it’s ironic that we ask handicapped people be treated equally but insist on a prefix like “Para” to describe athletes.

What a shame.
